No. This sums the raw marks obtained and total marks across all subjects first, then divides — so a subject worth more marks naturally has more influence on the result. Averaging each subject's own percentage equally would ignore that weight difference and can give a noticeably different number.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- This sums marks obtained and total marks separately — it doesn't average each subject's percentage. A subject worth 200 marks naturally counts more than one worth 50. Averaging four separate percentages equally would treat every subject as if it carried the same weight, which gives a different (and wrong) answer whenever subjects have different total marks.
- This combines subjects within one semester — not multiple semesters into one overall percentage. If you're trying to combine several semesters' results into one overall figure, this isn't that tool. For an overall CGPA across semesters, use the SGPA to CGPA Calculator instead.
